Dexia is a European banking group, in orderly resolution since the end of 2011, when the group faced a severe liquidity crisis, in the context of the European sovereign crisis. Since the end of 2012, the group is 94.4% owned by the States of Belgium and France. Dexia SA, the parent company of the group, is a Belgian company listed on the Euronext Stock Market in Brussels and Paris and on the Stock Market of Luxembourg. The European Commission approved the resolution plan of the group at the end of 2012. This plan aims to avoid a liquidation of the group which could represent a risk for the European banking sector, given the size of the Dexia group. In order to manage its orderly resolution, Dexia has been provided by the States of Belgium and France with a EUR 5.5 billion capital injection and, along with the State of Luxembourg, with a EUR 85 billion funding guarantee. As a bank in orderly resolution, Dexia is managed in run-off and has no commercial activity, the group divested its operational entities. The group's mandate is now to manage the balance sheet wind-down in order to preserve the financial interests of the shareholders and State guarantors.
